Core Collection Paper: Women and Philosophy and Concepts of Women and Feminity
My paper developed a collection of resources for a topic that was underrepresented in a chosen library, mine being women and philosophy. The purpose of my core collection was to support student’s general, cultural, and intellectual freedom. Providing recommendations and rationales for the chosen resources facilitated access to previously unavailable resources for the community. Justifying my chosen resources and its value to the intended community help facilitate access to information.
Review of Collection Policies/Plans: Bitterroot Public Library and University of Montana Library
My review examined the collection policies of each respective library. I demonstrated in my review how each library utilizes human records and how that is contingent on the elements of their policies and plans. I assessed each library’s collection policy and plans to determine if each were effective in achieving transparency for community members in regards to the collection development processes, while also keeping in mind the librarianship value of intellectual freedom. Using the elements of the policies and plans created the ability to manage information by using collection development and management. By using the libraries’ websites to find each policy and plan allowed me to show how individuals seek their information and how this exercised their intellectual freedom.
